The Brementown Musicians
The Brementown Musicians is a 45-minute children's opera designed for stage and schools. Composed by Laura Jobin-Acosta, with libretto by Joanie Brittingham, the opera features five singers (two sopranos, one mezzo, one tenor, and one baritone) and piano. It’s perfect for in-school outreach productions, college workshops, and double-bill children’s programming.
Donkey, Dog, Cat, and Rooster take a comedic journey on their way to Bremen to become musicians, when they are beset by an instrument-stealing Robber.

About the opera
Based on a German folk tale, The Brementown Musicians tells of four animals, Donkey, Dog, Cat, and Rooster, who, after being abandoned by their owners, decide to move to Bremen to become a quartet. On their melodious journey, they encounter a nasty robber, who loves to steal instruments and silence all music and joy.
Together, the animals solve their problems through music and friendship, rather than resorting to violence. Comedy and villainous quick-changes abound in a work that reaches children as young as three, and as old as ninety-nine! With soaring melodies and memorable tunes, this is one show where children (and adults!) will leave the performance craving more opera.

Joanie Brittingham is a writer, soprano, and editor for Classical Singer Magazine. Laura Jobin-Acosta
Laura Jobin-Acosta is a composer and soprano based in New York City. Her operas have been performed by Washington National Opera, Prelude Opera, and Maryland Opera. Choral and ensemble works have been performed by Beth Morrison Projects, Canterbury Choral Society, Lorelei Ensemble, Voices of Ascension, Interreligiöser Chor Frankfurt, and Holy City Arts and Lyric Opera. She was Composer-in-Residence at Opera America and Choral Chameleon.
